Before I do a full review and recommend any product, I test it and use it for a few months to see just how good or bad the product is. This is the only way to be able to give good advice about any product.

I first tested mSpy about a year ago but decided against doing a full review. At that time it was one of the newest programs and it worked well enough for me.

I was reluctant to recommend it as it just didn’t offer anything different to StealthGenie and being relatively new made it a slightly more risky choice. (Ironic – given Stealthgenie’s demise!)

The two products were quite similar and my view then was why take a chance on an untested product against one which was has a proven track record? I kept getting people asking about m Spy – does it work, is it any good?
I gave in and decided to give it another run. It really has come on and it does indeed offer an alternative to the competition – with some unique features of its own.
If you’ve read any of my other reviews you’ll know I don’t just do a full run down of the features.

I will concentrate on what makes it a little different looking at a few advanced features and try to give you the information you need to make an informed decision.

Compatible Phones and Devices

m-Spy works on cell phones as well as Tablets – the important thing to remember is that it must match the OS (operating system) version of the target device.

Android Phones and Tablets – all versions 4 onwards

iPhone and iPad up to iOS 9.0.2

Although the software will work on all of these types of phone you should check their website for up to date version support plus they have lists of actual phones by make and model. Always check the features available for each type of phone as they are slightly different for each.

Advanced Features from MSpy

As well as covering all of the expected monitoring features – text logs, call logs, email, tracking and browser history etc. it also has some useful advanced features to set it apart.
Monitor Messenger Services – will monitor activity on WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, Snapchat, iMessage(iPhone only), Telegram and Facebook Messenger. These features available for Rooted Android devices and the iPhone/iPad. Now they have added Tinder monitoring to the list.
Call Blocking – you can define phone numbers and block incoming calls from them.
Website Blocking – block access to pre-defined websites.
App Blocking – you can view all installed apps on the target phone and choose which ones to block. Great tool for managing your kid’s phone and internet use.
Keylogger – This is unique to mSpy. The Keylogger feature can report all things typed on the target cell phone – messages, passwords, login details and emails – extremely powerful feature. Now works on Android and iOS devices (iPhone/iPad).
Management Features – they have some useful ways to manage how the reporting is set up. You can set reporting to be sent to the control panel by Wi-Fi only, by any connection or none. This is very useful and avoids any data being sent using the target cell phones data plan. You can also set reporting intervals and GPS intervals.
Security Features – lock the phone, wipe phone data, sim change notification, start, pause or delete the app – all from the online control panel.

mSpy With No Jailbreak Required!

This is a new added feature for Apple devices – iPhone and iPad, all versions. The add-on is included with all purchases of m-Spy for mobile devices – no extra cost!

How it Works

For the regular versions of mSpy all Apple devices must be Jailbroken – easy enough for most people. If for some reason Jailbreaking your iPhone is not possible you can use this feature to monitor the target phone. The device must be using the (free) iCloud backup service and you need to have the users Apple ID. No physical access to the phone is required!
Obviously this method has it’s limitations and the monitoring is less extensive and relies on updates from the backup service – but it can be a useful way to have at least some monitoring capability, when Jailbreaking is not possible.
You can monitor: Call logs, Text messages, Contacts, Browser history, WhatsApp, Skype, Line, Facebook Messenger, Events and Notes.
This is an added extra – there is no charge for this service and it is provided free with all mobile monitoring packages of mSpy. Of course if you are using the full capabilities of the software with a Jailbroken device – you can just ignore it.

Anything Else Special?

They offer a premium support service – MAssistence. This is not required and is a separate purchase for those who need it. It is a great idea for those worried about the technicalities of installing the software.
For a few dollars extra ($43.99) you get remote assistance and a technician will Jailbreak or Root your device and install MSpy for you – you will need the target phone and a computer/laptop. They guarantee to get you started! You can select this option on the checkout page during the buying process and it is available after purchase as well.

It is a great idea but unnecessary for most people – installing the software is not that technically challenging. I have not used the premium support so I can’t verify how good it is but if you are worried about the technical side it might be worth considering.
They have a clean and easy to follow website – I like that on the buying page it is very clear which features are supported by each price subscription – not always the case with some products.

Telephone Support – as well as live chat and email support you can talk directly to their staff by phone. This is long overdue in the spy software market. We are dealing with technical products and it is reassuring to know that help is available.
Demo Site – they have a live demo site – good to check around how the different features are reported and get a feel for how everything will work. I definitely recommend you check it out.

The one month options are good if you only need reporting for a short period of time or you just want to try the software out. Obviously the longer term options are better value. It is good to have the choice.

Is It Right for You?

As always you need to work out what features you really need and then look at your available options and of course the costs involved. For standard monitoring features and price – m-Spy is hard to beat. Mobile Spy is no longer recommended as it is no longer hidden!
